Jewish Meditation for Everyone

Soothing Ourselves in the Wilderness

Episode Summary

This episode of our podcast features a teaching and meditation by Rabbi Daniel Raphael Silverstein of Applied Jewish Spirituality. It's a practice based on the Torah portion Beha’alotcha, in which Moses’s father in law Jethro elects not to accompany the Israelites as they prepare to journey forth from Mt Sinai, an abandonment which is followed by the Israelites “acting out” their anxiety. Rabbi Daniel suggests that this is indicative of the people’s inability to soothe themselves, to parent themselves wisely when they experienced discomfort and anxiety in the wilderness, ultimately condemning them to wander for 40 years. And so here he offers a practice for soothing, holding and parenting ourselves wisely and lovingly when we face our own challenges, helping us build our resilience and stability. Join Rabbi Daniel Raphael Silverstein now for a practice we all need – to help us soothe ourselves in the midst of the storms of our lives and our world today.
